What is Occupational Therapy?
skills for living & learning
Occupational Therapy is a health profession aimed at promoting an individual’s functional independence skills in all aspects of daily life.
For children, this will mean assisting a child to, reach his or her developmental milestones, access the school curriculum and carry out activities of daily living e.g. to be able to dress and to feed themselves. It also involves assisting children to access play and leisure activities.
Occupational Therapy enables children to complete activities that they want to, need to and have to do as part of daily life. Occupational Therapy will emphasise the development of underlying skills, facilitate functional performance in everyday activities, or adaptation of the environment to enable the child to achieve desired and expected social roles.
